First Quarter: Organizational Strategy

One of the primary responsibilities of a nonprofit board of directors is to set, monitor and evaluate the organization’s strategic progress. For many organizations, that takes the form of a strategic plan. Increasingly, organizations are abandoning traditional plans in favor of more nimble strategic frameworks or filters. No matter what form it takes, the organization’s goals toward achievement of its mission should be clear to the board and central to discussion in board meetings. Measuring progress of the organization’s goals is critical to the demonstration of mission impact, and every board should assure that the organization is achieving mission impact.
