The Academy begins on March 12, 2018 and includes 2 or 3 days per month over four months (ends June 21, 2018) led by some of the Valley’s leading fundraising and nonprofit professionals. All sessions will be held in Tempe at the Conference Center at Rio Salado College.

The Fundraising Academy is ideal for those seeking dynamic approaches to fundraising, additional opportunities for networking, and to build their professional toolbox.

The program is intended for both new and experienced fundraising professionals and is eligible for 80 education points toward the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, which satisfies the certification’s educational requirement. Specifically, students will increase their capacity to strategically identify opportunities for funding.

2018 Schedule:

The Academy offers a fresh perspective on four key topic areas:

Session 1: Basics of FundraisingMarch 12-14, 2018

Session 2: Cause Selling/Social SkillsApril 4-5, 2018

Session 3: Major GiftsMay 22-23, 2018

Session 4: Planned Giving + GraduationJune 20-21, 2018

This program offers a fresh perspective and new cutting-edge techniques to address the needs of fundraising in today's society through exploring the advantages of technology, social media, innovative applications, and accurate financial management.

At the end of the program, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a pitch contest to demonstrate the skills they learned and compete for prizes for their organization such as a full-page ad in AZ Business Angels magazine

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate the state of the nonprofit field as it pertains to opportunities and gaps in the areas of development
  • Examine basic principles of fundraising while considering ethical and organizational factors
  • Analyze negotiating and cause-selling styles in order to evaluate their situational effectiveness
  • Articulate multiple approaches to development strategy in order to confront and address complex needs
  • Practice “making the ask” and cause selling techniques
  • Utilize emerging technology, presentation skills and communication in face-to-face, alternative, and virtual environments
  • Compare and contrast strategies of soliciting major gifts and planned giving
  • Identify the needs and resources associated with financial and legal requirements of fundraising
  • Develop professional skills that enhance opportunities and increase possible vehicles for fundraising
